Chief John Odigie-Oyegun

Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that Nigeria is not changing for the worse in spite of the present challenges facing the economy.

He stated this recently during a courtesy visit to City 105.1 FM in Lagos to share his insights into the current political and economic state of Nigeria.

According to Chief Oyegun, “To the Lay man on the street, it would seem as if the country is changing for the worse, but this in fact is not the case”.

He stated that while he was not trying to play the blame game, the present administration cannot but refer to the circumstances that have led the nation to where it is today.

“The past 16 years under the last administration used an ‘ATM’ system; no savings, no backup funds or excess crude accounts”, he said while insisting that this has led the country into distress, a situation that the present administration is now trying to fix.

Apart from the previous administration’s squandermania, Oyegun also noted that the global fall in oil prices also had a huge impact on the nation’s economy, which has led to the pains which has being experienced by the common man.

He likened the current pain of Nigerians to a man who is employed and being paid a much lesser salary than he was used to because of some crises in his place of work, and who now has to sit back and rework how he spends his new income in other to cater for himself and his family.

He mentioned that to combat this pain especially its source which is the country’s over dependence on oil, the APC administration is looking into Agriculture, Power, Infrastructure in other to stabilize the economy and cut the total dependence by replacing oil altogether

While he stated that he understands the pain Nigerians are going through, he gave an assurance that it is just for the moment, as things will in a matter of months get better.

He revealed that the Nigerian economy is beginning to respond, albeit slowly and gradually.
