The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on Thursday, had a successful bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy of the Republic of Poland, H.E. Mr. Krzysztof Gawkowski, and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to review the state of bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation in strategic sectors, including digital innovation, cybersecurity, trade and investment, agriculture, maritime security, education, defence cooperation, infrastructure development, culture, and tourism.
While welcoming the visiting Deputy Prime Minister to Nigeria, the Honourable Minister reaffirmed the longstanding, cordial relations between Nigeria and Poland, which date back to the establishment of diplomatic ties on 30 May 1962. She commended Poland for the peaceful conduct of its recent presidential election and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance and institutional stability.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu highlighted the economic reforms being implemented under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at improving the ease of doing business, enhancing fiscal transparency, and attracting foreign investment into Nigeria. She encouraged Polish investors and companies to take advantage of the growing opportunities within the Nigerian economy.
The Honourable Minister also expressed appreciation to the Polish Government for its continued support to Nigerian students, particularly those affected by the conflict in Ukraine, noting that educational cooperation remained a vital pillar of relations between both countries.
On regional and international security, the Honourable Minister underscored Nigeria’s determination to combat terrorism, piracy, and transnational organised crime, while calling for enhanced collaboration with Poland in the areas of intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, maritime security, and counterterrorism cooperation.
