The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the People’s Republic of China Ministry of Public Security, has successfully concluded a two-week seminar on Combating Cybercrime. The workshop, which ran from October 29th to November 11th, 2023, provided fifteen (15) NPF contingents with valuable insights into cybercrime prevention and detection.
The initiative, which is one of the offshoots from the IGPs earlier visit to China, was organized by the Third Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, PR China, and co-organized by the Shanghai Institute of Science & Technology Management. It was geared towards enhancing the knowledge and skills base of Nigeria Police Officers in tackling cyber threats. The seminar covered various aspects of cyber security, including Zero Trust, Network Security Level Protection Management, Methods of Strategic Intelligence Analysis, and Analysis of Electronic Data Forensic under the New Situation of Network, IoT, and Open Source Data Intelligence Analysis.
Led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Muhammad Musa Danko, the Nigerian contingent expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and explore the Chinese success story in combating cybercrime; while also acknowledging the role of experts such as Song HaoHao, John Homan, Cheng Xin, and Zhao Jinping for sharing their knowledge and providing multidisciplinary perspective on cybercrimes. The workshop not only strengthened the bond between the Nigerian and Chinese law enforcement agencies but also fostered a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, extended gratitude to the Republic of China for sponsoring the programme which imparted crucial cyber security knowledge to Nigeria Police Officers, pledging an unalloyed collaboration with China in security and intelligence sharing. While congratulating the contingents on expanding their knowledge, the IGP also urged them to apply their novel experiences effectively in combating cybercrime and contributing to the nation’s security efforts.
