The stage is now set for the Investiture of new Patrons of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

NOC as the custodian of the Olympic Movement in Nigeria has identified prominent personalities within the Nigerian nation to invest with the high office of Patronship of the Committee.

Leading the new honours as patrons are His Royal Majesty Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Oba of Ikateland, Lagos; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.

Also on the honours roll are His Excellency Mohammed A. Abubakar, executive governor of Bauchi State; Sir Marc Wabara; Mrs.(Dr) Zainab Bagudu, wife of Kebbi State governor; Major-General Adamu Dyeri (rtd); Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Delta State governor and Alhaji Bashari Mohammed Gumel.

Statement by the NOC said being a Patron of the Olympic Movement positions honourees as iconic international sports personality, carrying the emblem of Nigeria globally.

“It is therefore our honour to invest the honourees with the Patronship of the Olympic Movement which is in recognition of their meritorious contributions to humanity, sport and societal development,” the Olympic Commission stated.

The commission added that the responsibility and expectation of Patrons of the Nigeria Olympic Committee is to advice and support the Olympic Movement as appropriate.

The formal investiture ceremony will hold on Tuesday, October, 23 at Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi Palace in Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos while the investiture ceremony of those Patrons in the northern segment will take place on Wednesday, October, 31 and will be hosted by Mrs. (Dr) Zainab Bagudu in Kebbi State.
