Notorious criminal, Leonard Aghanu, who was nabbed by Police operatives from Ogidi Division of the Anambra State Police Command after many months of being on Police wanted list for heinous crimes, was on Thursday arraigned in Court.

The suspect, Leonard Aghanu, of Ekwulu Village, Umuoji, was on 28th May, 2019, at about 2.45pm, following intelligence report arrested by detectives attached to Ogidi Police Division at Akuzor Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

After days of investigation and interrogations, the Police found him culpable and finally arraigned him before the Magistrate Court sitting in Ojoto, Idemili South Magisterial District.

The Police stated that on 23rd March, 2019, the defendant, Leonard Aghanu, and others now at large, at the boundary between Ire Village Umuoji and Ekwulu Village Umuoji, conspired to commit felony to wit: armed robbery. Leonard Aghanu and others at large were also charged for kidnapping a legal practitioner, one Barrister Obiorah Nweze, from Umuoji to Nkpor. They were also charged for using gun and other dangerous weapons to rob Barrister Nweze of an iPhone 6 valued at N190, 000 including his ATM cards and his Toyota Camry car with registration number JJJ 521 CM valued at N2, 500, 000 only.

The defendant, Aghanu, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Chioma Amuluche, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The case was adjourned till 25th June, 2019, as the Police intensify efforts to apprehend his accomplices now at large.

It would be recalled that P.M.EXPRESS in the month of March, 2019, had reported how the suspect, Mr. Leonard Aghanu and some of his boys allegedly abducted and almost eliminated the legal practitioner, Barrister Obiora Nweze, who eventually jumped out of a moving vehicle on the way to their den.

The suspect had then reportedly driven the lawyer at gunpoint to the nearest Fidelity Bank at Nkpor to make withdrawals with his ATM cards before the lawyer then made attempt to escape for his dear life by jumping out of the car around Tarzan area in Nkpor.
