A 35-year old suspected notorious criminal, Biliaminu Saidu, who reportedly specialized in using the Nigerian Army uniform to steal motorcycles from owners, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Saidu, was arrested at Ipaja area of Lagos, where he wore an Army uniform and stole a motorcycle belonging to one Mustapha Abubakar and was caught by the Police intelligence team from Ipaja Division.

This happened after he reportedly committed similar offence by stealing another motorcycle at Imota area of Ikorodu area, was arrested and then transferred to SCID, Yaba, Lagos.

While he was about to be taken to Court for prosecution, he bargained with the owner to settle the matter from the Police and was released from custody after the owner said he wanted to withdraw the matter.

Barely few weeks after he regained freedom, he wore an Army cap, moved to NEPA Bus Stop in Ipaja area and stole a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number, LAR 713 QM belonging to Mustapha Abubakar worth about N370,000. While he was negotiating for buyer, he was caught and then taken to the place he hid the motorcycle. It was then discovered that the motorcycle had been stolen from him by another thief.

He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty before Court.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, informed the Court that the complainant said he was no longer interested in the matter and wanted to withdraw the matter from the Court after the defendant offered to buy another motorcycle for him.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E. O. Ogunkanmi, consequently struck out the matter and discharged the defendant, who may likely go back to be stealing motorcycles using Army uniform.
