Ahead of the 2017/18 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, season where newly promoted side, Go Round FC of Port Harcourt will trade tackles away against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi on match day one fixture, China Acheru, the Media Chief and Head of Marketing of Go Round FC has said that the club will tread with caution.

Speaking exclusively to PM EXPRESS, Acheru said the team really worked very hard to gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League and will leave nothing to chance to give very good account of themselves on the field and get favourable result, but the team will be very cautious in their first game against Wikki Tourists.

“It is our first ever game in the top flight, so caution will be our watchword. We will play exciting football and will keep at it, but we will  be cautious and very careful, “Acheru said.

He added that “the level of preparedness will be tested when the season kicks off. We have done our bit, picked our players. All that’s left is to start competitive action.”

Speaking further, the seasoned journalist cum football administrator said that most of the players that helped the club to gain promotion from the Nigeria National League NNL to the elite class are still with the team and they also have some players who already tasted action in the NPFL in their fold.

“We ended last season with 22 senior players and 5 rookies. 14 of those senior players stayed back with us.  So we did not lose too much of our team from last season and we also have some players who are not new to the challenges of playing in the NPFL in our team.

“Center back, Chile Azu played at Ikorodu United before, Ayala Moses also played at Sharks and we signed Victor Obiowo , a goalkeeper from Akwa United too,” he added.

On the issue of funding of the club’s activities in the NPFL, which is more capital intensive compared to the NNL, Acheru said the club is privately funded, but they hope to get additional funding from the corporate world having gained promotion to the NPFL, which will pave way for more opportunities for the club to attract sponsors to complement the effort of individual sponsor of the club.

“For now it’s a self funded club by the president, Felix Obuah. Hopefully, our entrance into the NPFL will open new vistas of opportunity to market the club further,” he concluded.
