A 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, has been remanded in custody for allegedly inducing abortion on a 23-year old NYSC member in Ogun State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the deceased Victoria Ariyo was alleged to have been impregnated by Abass Olalekan, an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The NYSC official, Olalekan was said to have contacted the nurse to supply the abortion drugs to late Victoria Ariyo, which she took and there were complications, which led to her death.

Olalekan and the nurse were then arrested and charged for the alleged conspiracy, attempted abortion and murder under the Criminal Law of the State.

The Police prosecutor, Solomon Babalola, moved a motion exparte, praying the court for an order for the remand of the defendants in prison for 60 days in the first instance, at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He told the court that the defendants committed the offences between January and March, 2026 at Ikereku area, Laderin, in Abeokuta.

He alleged that the defendants conspired to induce abortion on one NYSC member, Victoria Ariyo, a 23-year old corper serving in Abeokuta by supplying drugs to the deceased in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy. He added that the drugs allegedly led to the death of Victoria.

The prosecutor stated that the alleged offences contravened Sections 516, 230, 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 26th May, 2026, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
