Nursing Staff Of Randle General Hospital, 2 Others Deliver First Babies Of New Year At Gbaja MCC

A Senior Nursing Officer of the Randle General Hospital, Surulere, Mrs. Lateefat Olufunlayo Subair, and two other women delivered the first babies of Y2022 at the Maternal Child Centre (MCC) Gbaja on New Year’s Day.

The Medical Director and CEO of the Hospital, Dr. Madewa Adebajo, stated that the MCC Gbaja, which is an annex of the Randle facility, welcomed the delivery of the five newborn babies, including triplets, on January 1, 2022.

According to him, Mrs. Subair delivered a baby girl at exactly 12:00 am while Mrs. Helen Okotie, who gave birth to triplets, delivered her three baby girls at 9:33 am, 9:52 am and 9:54 am respectively. Another mother, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunsanya, delivered the only baby boy among the five babies at exactly 1p.m on the same day.

While expressing delight that the mother of the first baby of the year in the hospital is a Senior Nursing Officer of Randle General Hospital, Dr. Adebajo pledged the commitment of the hospital to sustain efficient, accessible and affordable mother and child services, which the facility is known for.

The Medical Director also appreciated the Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, and his entourage for visiting the hospital and making it an annual tradition to rejoice with mothers of newborn babies at the hospital with the presentation of various gifts every 1st of January.

On his part, Mr. Gbajabiamila said the purpose of his visit was to felicitate with the newborn babies and congratulate the parents as well as families of Mrs. Lateefat Olufunlayo Subair, Mrs. Hellen Okotie and Mrs. Olabisi Ogunsanya on the birth of their children.

He acknowledged the professionalism, which the hospital has been known for in medical practice, especially in the area of Maternal and Child, Prenatal and Postnatal care, commending the Lagos State Government for its huge investment in the health sector.

“The efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration has further strengthened the Maternal and Child Health policies and programmes at the primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities across the State”, Gbajabiamila said.

The Speaker, who was accompanied on the visit by top government officials, including the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Surulere I, Mr. Desmond Elliot; Commissioner IV of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi and Chairman, Surulere Local Government, Mr. Sulaiman Yusuf among others, presented gift items to all the mothers of newborn babies.

The Surulere-born lawmaker, who has over the years consistently visited the hospital to rejoice with the first babies of the year, said that he has institutionalised the gesture the same way it is being celebrated at the State level through the office of the First Lady of Lagos State and Ministry of Health.
