The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has commended the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for suspending its planned withdrawal of teachers’ services, describing the decision as a demonstration of patriotism, maturity, and commitment to the future of Nigerian children.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Adeniran said the Union’s decision to prioritise the academic calendar and the interest of learners reflected the selfless role teachers continue to play as custodians of the nation’s future.
According to him, the suspension of the industrial action will prevent further disruption to teaching and learning, ensuring that pupils continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to quality education.
The OYOSUBEB Chairman noted that the development was particularly significant as stakeholders in the education sector remain hopeful for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Adeniran expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Seyi Makinde, the Federal Government, and security agencies for their coordinated efforts and unwavering commitment towards securing the release of the victims without harm.
He said the resilience and determination of the governments and security agencies had continued to give hope to the affected families while reassuring stakeholders that the safety and well-being of teachers and pupils remain a top priority.
The OYOSUBEB boss also praised the leadership of the NUT and teachers across the state for their understanding, sacrifice, and steadfastness despite prevailing challenges, describing their dedication to the education sector as worthy of recognition.
Adeniran urged all stakeholders to continue embracing dialogue, mutual respect, and constructive engagement in resolving issues affecting the education sector. He stressed that while the welfare of teachers remains essential, uninterrupted education for pupils must also remain non-negotiable.
He expressed optimism that the latest development would usher in lasting industrial harmony, stronger collaboration among stakeholders, improved school security, and renewed commitment to advancing quality basic education for every Nigerian child.
