Efforts to preserve and promote Igbo language and culture would receive a major boost on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, with the launch of a new television programme titled NZUKO NDI IGBO. The programme debuted penultimate Wednesday and is now airing on Opera Tune TV, a channel known for entertainment and cultural content.

According to the production team, NZUKO NDI IGBO was designed as an interactive and family-friendly platform. The show is structured to engage viewers across Nigeria and the diaspora through segments that combine learning with entertainment. Key segments include chit chat, Igbo culture, and Igbo language lessons aimed at different age groups.

Pastor William Uchechi Ekeagwu serves as both the anchor and producer of the programme. He said the idea was born out of the need to keep Igbo heritage alive in a fast-changing digital age. He noted that television remains one of the most accessible mediums for reaching homes, schools, and community audiences.

Speaking during the launch, Pastor Ekeagwu stressed the urgency of cultural preservation among younger Nigerians. “In this Gen Z era, we must do everything to imbibe our culture and language into our children,” he stated. He added that the programme will use relatable storytelling, music, and conversations to make Igbo learning enjoyable.

The culture segment will focus on traditions, proverbs, festivals, and social etiquette that define Igbo identity. The language segment will teach vocabulary, correct pronunciation, and everyday conversation in simple formats. Organisers say this approach will help viewers who understand Igbo but struggle to speak it fluently.

The chit chat segment will feature guests from academia, the arts, business, and community leadership. The goal is to discuss issues affecting Igbo communities at home and abroad, while also celebrating achievements and shared values.

Opera Tune TV has confirmed that NZUKO NDI IGBO will air weekly. Viewers can tune in via the channel’s broadcast frequency as well as its online streaming platforms. The team said broadcast times will be announced to accommodate viewers in different time zones.

Cultural advocates and language experts have welcomed the initiative. They noted that regular media programming is important to reversing the gradual decline in native language use among children and teenagers. Many believe television shows like this can complement efforts in schools and families.

Pastor Ekeagwu said future episodes will include educators, traditional custodians, and young content creators to ensure the show speaks to all generations. The production team will also create opportunities for audience participation through questions, cultural showcases, and viewer contributions.

With its focus on language, culture, and community dialogue, NZUKO NDI IGBO is expected to become a reference point for Igbo cultural broadcasting in the coming months.
