Obanta Comprehensive High School Alumni Gets New National Executive

Some 48 years ago, precisely October 3rd, 1977, what we now know and referred to as Obanta Comprehensive High School, Awa-Ijebu was birthed. A school grounded in a robust history of its founding fathers and known for its high disciplinary standard was announced to the world that it had arrived to contribute to impacting knowledge in the Ijebu community and Nigeria at large.

The idea of the community school was conceived by Venerable Lawrence Olusegun Ogunsipe and supported by the likes of the distinguished and accomplished Professor Stephen Oluwole Awokoya, Prof. Cornelius O. Taiwo and Prof. Wale Ogunneye and Chief Joseph Ogundero to mention a few. A solid foundation that has stood the test of time was laid and it becomes the toast of all eyes where the Ijebu parents would want their children to attend.

The principle etched by the founding fathers has become a grand norm for the students to dearly put to their heart in search of the pathway to higher ground and excellence in every area of our national and private life to succeed.

How time flies, this educational institution which started almost five decades ago has in no small measure contributed to the development and growth in all aspects of the socio-political and economic wellbeing of the society.

The school has produced many seasoned administrators, business tycoons, military and paramilitary of high rankings, engineers of no mean feat, doctors, nurses, lawyers of outstanding reputation, teachers whose skills are incomparable, name it, they are just there.

In the light of this, the newly elected executives of the old students association had made a clarion call and felicitate with both old and current students of the school to raise the banner by thinking in this one direction of what they can do for the school and not what the school can do for them.

The gratitude on the significant occasion, of the swearing in of the first elected executive committee members in the history of the alumni association which produces Yeye-Oba, Erelu Adenike Ogunleye-Ogunrinde as the National President.

Erelu Ogunrinde in her acceptance speech thanked all who made the poll excercise a success and specially congratulated the electoral committee members headed by Architect Tunde Adeyemi for a job well done.

“I want to take out time to appreciate the electoral body, In fact, I appreciate your doggedness, forthrightness and resilience during the electoral process. It will go into the record of this great school that you are the pioneer body that conducted the election exercise in a smooth and credible process. Kudos to you all”.

Barrister Kunle Obijimi, the alumni association’s outgoing national caretaker committee chairman in his own remarks enjoined the new exco to focus on ways to generate funds which is the pivotal means to aid the development of the alma mater.

Meanwhile, the newly elected president, Erelu Adenike Ogunrinde also congratulated all alumni members for the grace to see the forty eight years founder’s day anniversary.

According to her, “let us congratulate ourselves on this historic celebration and for being alive today in good spirit and sound health couple with blissful achievements in one way or another. The occasion calls for every member to roll out the drum to mark the celebration with fanfare”.

She continued, “In the same vein, let us pray for the repose of the souls of the departed founding fathers and mothers and also alumni members who had contributed in no small ways to the development of the alma mater. Their untainted impact and contributions will remain indelible in the annals of the school’s history”.

Erelu Adenike Ogunrinde said her team represents a new beginning. She then charged the new exco members for their support by contributing their own quota in terms of ideas, services and monetary donations in order to take the alumni association to Its Canaan.

The newly sworn-in executive members include: the National Vice president, Mr. Ayuba Rabiu; National General Secretary, Mrs. Olorunwa Asaye; National Assistant General Secretary, Gbemisola Olusanya Martins; National Treasurer, Mr. Segun Akinsanya; National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeleke Adebanjo; National Financial Secretary, Mrs. Adeola Igbokoyi; National Social Secretary, Mrs. Aderonke Bamiro; National Assistant Social Secretary, Mr. Olaniyi Olaitan Leke and the National Auditor, Mr. Adebowale Jimoh FCA.
