Obi Of Lagos Saga: Chief Sunday Udeh Released On Bail After Several Months

The President General of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, Chief Dr Sunday Udeh, has been released from the Ikoyi correctional center after several months in detention over alleged link with the Obi of Lagos title.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Udeh was arraigned before the Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square alongside the ‘Obi of Lagos’, Chief Chibuike Azubuike, Chief Martins Nwaodika and Chibuzor Ani by the Lagos State Office of Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP ) over their alleged involvement in the Obi of Lagos saga.
The pleaded not guilty on charges relating to alleged unlawful assembly and the unauthorised creation of a chieftaincy title under the criminal law of the State.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdul-Raheem Muyideen, ordered their remand in custody at the correctional center and adjourned the matter till 7th January, 2026, when the Court will decide on their bail conditions.
However, Chief Sunday Udeh was granted bail by the Court on 23rd December, 2025 but the conditions for his release on bail were not yet clear and what transpired if it was based on a medical report.
The Chairman of Council of Ezendigbo,  Eze Dr Chika Nwokedi, confirmed the release and was grateful to God for making it possible for Chief Sunday Udeh to come out of the correctional center custody to celebrate Christmas with his family.
Eze Nwokedi did not give details of what transpired at the Court before Udeh was granted bail. He only confirmed his release from custody at about 1.30pm.
The  defendants are facing three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and the creation of a chieftaincy title—offences said to contravene the laws of Lagos State.
According to the charge filed by the Lagos State Government, the defendants allegedly conspired to commit the offences in the Ikotun area of Lagos State on or about 13th September, 2025.
It is further alleged that they unlawfully created the chieftaincy titles of ‘Obi Ndigbo Lagos State’ and ‘Dike Oha Ndigbo Lagos State’ without lawful authority at No. 6 Anjorin Street, beside Total Filling Station, Lawanson, Lagos.
The alleged offences are said to be in contravention of Sections 411 and 34 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
