The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has condoled with the family of the late former minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tam David-West, who passed on recently at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, aged 83.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. James Eze, Obiano stated that the death of Prof Tam David-West has robbed Nigeria of the invaluable inputs of another national icon at a time we needed him most.
According to Governor Obiano “death usually lades the soul of the bereaved with sorrow. It becomes even more painful when the loss is of such magnitude as the departure of a beloved husband, father and teacher of Prof Tam David-West’s stature.”
On behalf of the Government and ndi Anambra I commiserate with the family of late David West at this moment of grief. I encourage you to take solace in the life of active and productive national service that he lived, and to have abiding faith in Christ’s Resurrection that guarantees us eternity with the Father.
Governor Obiano urged the David West family to accept his deepest sympathies as we continue to pray for his soul’s repose and God’s protection on the family. He equally enjoined them to ensure that the cherished legacy of Prof Tam David-West endures.
The late David-West was a renowned consultant virologist. He served as Commissioner of Education in the old Rivers State, Minister of Petroleum and Energy under the Muhammadu Buhari military regime, and Minister of Mines, Power and Steel under Gen. Ibrahim Babangida regime.
