In line with government’s commitment in providing adequate, affordable and accessible healthcare to Anambra people, Gov Willie Obiano, on Monday June 10th, visited the College of Nursing Sciences, Diocesan Hospital, Amichi, Nnewi-South LGA, to assess the facility and the internal roads constructed in the school by the State government.
The Governor appreciated the contributions of the Church in community development and expressed great delight at the efforts of the Amichi Diocese (Anglican Communion) for transforming a community hospital into a modern health facility.
“I am very impressed by the facility I’ve seen here. I must commend His Lordship the Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Ikeakor and Ndi Amichi for the marvelous transformation that we are all witnessing here today.
“The State Government will continue to provide support wherever it can. The roads within the facility have been asphalted by government but I have also instructed the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to fix the roads leading to the hospital.”
Speaking further, the Governor encouraged the students and pledged provision of necessary assistance to aid the accreditation of the College’s School of Midwifery and School of Public Health. He donated a bus to the College.
Governor Obiano was earlier received by the Bishop of Amichi Diocese (Anglican Communion) Rt Rev’d Ephraim Ikeakor and his wife, Dame Nkem Ikeakor, as well as staff and students of the college and hospital.
Welcoming the Governor, Bishop Ikeakor expressed great satisfaction at the achievements of government in the state, especially in security, health and education. He lauded Governor Obiano for paying attention to the needs of the people and for fulfilling the promises he made to the Diocesan Hospital and College.
“I am very pleased with the complementing efforts of Governor Obiano in providing the much needed assistance to the College of Nursing Sciences, Diocesan Hospital, Amichi. Today we are witnesses to the asphalting of the internal roads in this facility by the state government, the commitment of the Governor to the accreditation of the schools of midwifery and public health and the overall progress of the College
“It is my hope and prayer that these Schools receive the accreditation of relevant authorities so that the students can graduate and practice without any impediment”.
Bishop Ikeakor implored the Governor to assist the Diocese in fulfilling the requirements needed for the anticipated accreditation.
Also speaking at the occasion, the former Commissioner for Information and Culture and APGA chieftain, Chief Maja Umeh, expressed heartfelt thanks to Gov Obiano for his people-oriented projects in the state, especially in Amichi. Chief Umeh commended the Governor for his support to the Diocesan Hospital and Nursing School; and for other projects executed by the Governor in the community which has positively touched the lives of the people.
He pledged continued support of Ndi Amichi to the administration of Gov Willie Obiano.
