The Managing Director of Nigeria’s foremost sports management company, Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Chief Bukola Olopade, has congratulated the Delta State Governor-Elect, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his victory at the March 18, 2023 Governorship elections.

Olopade, noted that, the victory of the former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly is a victory for all the sports personalities in the state.

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Sports stressed that, Oborevwori’s election will boost the continued domination of Delta State as Nigeria’s number one in sports – in participation, competition, sponsorship and development.

Olopade added: “The Delta State Governor-Elect since his election as Speaker of the state House of Assembly in 2017 has been the number three citizen in the administration of the outgoing government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, whose eight years tenure made sports a very important part of the administration.

“The Governor-Elect on several occasions represented Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in local and international sports events within and outside the state. And he played prominent roles in the planning, organisation and hosting of local and international sports events hosted in the past by Delta State. He was a regular and prominent figure last year when the state hosted the biggest sports fiesta in Nigeria, the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba.”

Olopade added that; “The Governor-Elect had seen it all with the outgoing state governor Senator Ofeanyi Okowa on the Delta state’s legacy in sports, which include ; the building of the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba, hosting of Super Eagles international games in Asaba, the FA Cup final, NWFL season’s opener, African Athletics Championship, the 21st National Sports Festival and several other international sports events in Delta state.

“I am sure, Sherif Oborovwori will be out to maintain the pivotal position of sports in Delta state, especially the first class status of sports in the state which started at the National Sports Festival in Bauchi 2000. Where the state has never looked back for 23 years.”

The Governor-Elect representing PDP, Sheriff Oborevwori, was declared the winner of the March 18, 2023 Gubernatorial election when he polled 360, 234 votes to beat his closest rival of the APC, the Deputy Senate president, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who scored 240,229. The Labour Party candidate, Ken Pela, polled 48,047 votes.

Oborevwori clinched 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas of the state leaving the APC with four local government Areas.
