Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for Ebonyi State in the 2027 election, has pledged to attract more than ₦2 trillion in private sector investment to the state within the first six months of his administration if elected.
Odii made the declaration last weekend while addressing a large gathering of supporters and party stakeholders in Lagos ahead of the formal flag-off of his campaign. He said his economic blueprint for Ebonyi was designed to unlock the state’s potential across key sectors and drive sustainable development.
According to him, the investment plan has been structured to involve virtually every major sector of the state’s economy. He disclosed that he has built a network of over 2,000 prospective investors who have expressed readiness to commit about ₦1 billion each to projects in Ebonyi.
“I have over 2,000 people who can invest ₦1 billion each. When you multiply it, you will get over ₦2 trillion. This has been structured in such a way that all aspects of the economy will be involved,” Odii said.
He listed mining, hospitality, real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and technology as priority areas targeted under the proposed investment drive. Odii explained that the goal was to leverage Ebonyi’s abundant natural resources and strategic location in the South East to position the state as a hub for business and industrial growth.
The PDP candidate said his administration would not focus only on bringing in capital, but on building an investment ecosystem that creates jobs, expands the state’s productive base, and opens new opportunities for youths and entrepreneurs.
Odii noted that private sector participation would be central to his economic agenda. He said his government would work to create an enabling environment for both local and foreign investors, while also supporting existing businesses in the state to expand and scale up.
“Ebonyi has what it takes to become one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria. What we need is leadership that understands how to attract investment, reduce bureaucracy, and protect investors,” he added.
On job creation, Odii said the ₦2 trillion investment target was directly linked to massive employment generation for Ebonyi youths. He explained that industries to be established under the plan would absorb thousands of graduates, artisans, and skilled workers, thereby reducing unemployment and poverty in the state.
He also emphasized the importance of infrastructure to support the investment push. According to him, his administration would prioritize roads, power, and digital infrastructure to make Ebonyi competitive and attractive to investors.
Political analysts say Odii’s campaign is increasingly focusing on economic development, wealth creation, and private sector-led growth as the 2027 governorship race gathers momentum. The PDP candidate has in recent weeks intensified engagements with business leaders, diaspora groups, and community stakeholders to build support for his aspiration.
Supporters at the Lagos meeting described Odii as a businessman with proven capacity, noting that his experience in the private sector places him in a strong position to deliver on his promises. They said Ebonyi needs a governor who can think like an investor and act like a builder.
However, observers note that the critical test will be how the ambitious ₦2 trillion target is translated into actual projects, jobs, and measurable economic impact within the proposed six-month timeframe.
If successfully implemented, the proposed investment drive would rank among the most ambitious private sector mobilization programs ever proposed for Ebonyi State. It could significantly transform the state’s economy, boost internally generated revenue, and set a new standard for governance.
Odii concluded by urging Ebonyi people at home and in the diaspora to support his vision, saying that with unity and the right leadership, Ebonyi can become a destination for investment and prosperity in Nigeria.
