Ordinarily, Hon. Barr. Vincent Ekene Ofumelu should have the right to first refusal for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency. But safe for being a pure Democrat, he has instead joined the queue for free and fair primaries of the party.
Aside being one of the few leaders of the party in his Federal Constituency and Anambra North Zone, having served in the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP and a major financier of the party, the track records and antecedents of Ofumelu as a first time lawmaker are enough for the PDP to return him to the ballot unopposed.
But instead, he has opted to show leadership and compete for every position in tandem with rule of law and Democracy.
Ofumelu would always assert that the beauty of politics and Democracy is where everyone is availed equal opportunities to compete and prove their mettle.
Since he has given away his right to first refusal to instead contest in the primaries, Ofumelu is still the “Candidate” to beat.
Who amongst those contesting the PDP ticket in the PDP are known to the party delegates and general electorates? What is their social and political capital?
They are just in the race for ego trip and the refusal of Hon. Vincent Ofumelu to run unopposed will only be a benefit to their unknown identity as PDP members.
