It was Mahatma Gandhi who aptly stated: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
These words continue to resonate with Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR (Dikeora), evident in his acts of goodwill towards others and his community.
For years, the road leading to the Ogidi General Hospital had been neglected by successive governments, despite its strategic importance. This road serves as the sole access point to the general hospital and connects to major routes like Onitsha/Awka/Nnewi/Ekwulobia. It also leads to the residence of Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR.
After years of neglect, hope has returned to the area’s residents. Professor Obiora Okonkwo has completed the asphalt paving of the road, with standard drainage systems to ensure its longevity and functionality, and it is now open to traffic. This road also offers an alternative route for motorists struggling with the flooding at the Ogidi section of the old Onitsha-Enugu road.
The construction of this road is expected to boost socio-economic activities in the area, as residents express their overwhelming joy and gratitude.
Professor Okonkwo, known for his humility and service, would prefer this project remain out of the media spotlight. He considers it simply his contribution to community service and development. However, given the public interest in this vital road, I feel compelled to share this news, even against his wishes.
