Traditional rulers in the Yewa area of Ogun State have distanced themselves from the governorship aspiration of Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party, maintaining that no amount of monetary inducement would sway them to queue behind him while they remain united behind Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC from Ogun West for the 2027 election.

The position was expressed collectively by all the traditional rulers from Yewa at a meeting in Ilaro, Ogun State chaired by the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and was attended by Adebutu, and other stakeholders.

A source at the meeting said all the traditional rulers stormed out, insisting there was no compromise on the choice of candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

A traditional ruler who spoke on condition of anonymity said stakeholders in Yewa are aligned in support of Senator Yayi, as their preferred candidate for governor in 2027.

“The time has come for Ogun West to be liberated and take its place in the political equation of Ogun State,” the monarch said.

“We have been in the political dungeon for several decades in Ogun State. We are the only Senatorial district that has not produced a governor. This is our best chance, and we are not ready to back down on the opportunity to liberate Ogun West.”

The monarchs said the meeting was an opportunity to state their collective position ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

As of press time, Adebutu and the Ogun State PDP had not issued an official response to the development.

The 2027 governorship election in Ogun State will hold in February 2027, and political consultations across the state’s three senatorial districts are expected to intensify in the coming months.
