The embattled former President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Solomon Aguene, has finally bowed out thereby giving room for Chief Linus Igbudu to step in to coordinate the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Aguene disclosed this in his voice notes on social media, wherein he stated that he was now the former president of Ohanaeze having set up an electoral committee to conduct election as he claimed that the President General of Ohanaeze, Senator John Mbata directed him to do so.
However, a Lagos State High Court has ordered Chief Solomon Aguene not to conduct the Ohanaeze Ndigbo election planned to hold on 16th April, 2026, in the State.
The order was given by the presiding judge, Justice M.M. Balogun, on 31st March, 2026 and he ordered the parties in the suit number YSD/96800CM/2025 to maintain status quo.
The judge gave the order and adjourned the matter till 24th April, 2026, for hearing at 12noon as contained in the enrollment order of the Court signed by the legal Registrar, Abiola Adewuyi.
The parties in the suit are Robert Obasi and Everestus Ozonweke for themselves and on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State versus Solomon Ogbonna and Gabby who was ths former secretary of his faction of Ohanaeze which held sway with the consent judgment due to elapse on 8th April, 2026.
The former factional president of Ohanaeze, Chief Sunday Ossai, was removed for alleged gross misconduct and replaced with Chief Linus Igbudu, who is now the only member of the legitimate executive members recognized by the consent judgment of Chief Aguene.
The bone of contention now is that following the Court order, the electoral committee constituted by Chief Aguene cannot continue with the electoral processes to avoid being held for contempt of Court and nullification of the election if they disobey the Court Order.
The second aspect of the matter is that the consent judgment recognized executive members of the new leader, Chief Igbudu and their tenure has not elapsed and under what condition will the electoral committee conduct delegate elections from the 20 Local Government Areas of the State without the executive members recognized by the consent judgment.
Meanwhile, candidates have indicated interest to contest for various positions and were asked to pay certain amount of money for the purchase of forms.
P.M.EXPRESS investigation revealed that those in support of Chief Aguene and his electoral committee are insisting that the election must go on. While the faction led by Chief Linus Igbudu are insisting that the election will not hold and if there will be any election, the National body should unite the factions first and conduct a free and fair election in the Lagos State chapter. With the stance of the factions, it appears that peace has not returned to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State chapter.
