The political manoeuvring and horse trading aimed at outsmarting the suspended factional President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Sunday Ossai, could be described as the height of deceit and game of betrayal by one of his trusted allies, Chief Deacon Friday C. Obi.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Ossai is still in shock following the declaration by Chief C.F.C Obi, who some weeks ago, was his loyalist, turned against and wants to force him out and take over his position as Factional Ohanaeze President.
The contentious discussion over the constitutional legality of the suspension of Chief Ossai by the Executives was still going on, which has not been ratified by the General Assembly.
But Chief Obi has started beating his chest and campaigning by reaching out to people, castigating Ossai and claiming that he is the most qualified person to become Ohanaeze Ndigbo President.
Chief Sunday Ossai still has three years to finish his tenure but Chief Obi does not want his bossom friend to continue as the factional Ohanaeze president because of his inordinate ambition.
“As far as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State leadership and presidential position is concerned, I am the most qualified person out of other persons because I am tested, trusted, most experienced and more qualified“ he said.
Chief Obi, who is a Deacon and top Executive member in the Chief Ossai’s kitchen cabinet, is confident that with his strong support base, which cut across the 57 Local Councils in Lagos State, backing from stakeholders, Igbo Leaders, Past Presidents, including Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, who he respects as a mentor and idol over Aguenes’ leadership qualities, love and commitment to Ndigbo cause.
However, Chief Deacon Friday C. Obi may be a bloody liar and traitor because he never supported Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, who is the authentic Ohanaeze President, Lagos State, based on the consent judgment of the Lagos State High Court.
Chief Obi was among the rebels, who went and formed rebel Ohanaeze group, contested the Presidential election and lost to Chief Ossai.
To rehabilitate him over his abysmal defeat, Chief Ossai brought him to be part of the Executives not knowing he brought a man who will stabbed him at back and take over his position.
Today, Chief Ossai is in pains, not because of the lingering crises in Ohanaeze but the height of betrayal going on especially from his bossom friend, Chief Obi.
Chief Obi may be chasing shadows and the dream of becoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo President may be a mirage following the constitutional declaration of the former General Secretary of Ohanaeze, Lagos State, Chief Evaristus Ozonweke, on who takes over if the Ohanaeze President is removed.
Chief Ozonweke, popularly known as Onowu, stated it clearly that he never supported the suspension or impeachment of Chief Sunday Ossai but there was urgent need to revitalize Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership in Lagos State. He further explained that in the event of removal of the incumbent President, the Deputy President will take over in line with Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution. Indeed, ambition can destroy a man going by what has really played out with Chief Ossai and Chief Obi.
