A group, the Igwebuike Development Union, has strongly condemned the purported adoption of Prof. George Obiozor as the sole candidate for the position of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In a statement signed by Prof. K.C Uzoukwu, CFR (National President) and Ambassador H.C Okafor, PhD (National Secretary), the group said, “The attention of Igwebuike Development Union world wide  has been drawn to a purported endorsement and adoption of Prof. George Obiozor by some politicians in Imo State as a sole candidate for the position of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo”.
“We have also been reliably informed that the same group of politicians, in their desperate plot to perfect their grand design to the satisfaction of their pay-masters, have concluded plans to take their adopted candidate round the Southeast states signposting him as a consensus candidate. We wish to add here that, Igwebuike Development Union cannot allow imposition of any candidate or any external influence on the forthcoming election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will not be a card-carrying member of any political party or a stooge  against Igbo interest.”

“May we state here without any equivocation that it is premature and against the Constitution of Ohanaeze for any group of politician under any disguise to  present an individual as a sole candidate for the position of President General.”

“We are aware that those behind the purported adoption are enemies of Ndigbo who were paid to destabilize the peace of Ndigbo. There are procedures and guidelines for the election of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo which shall be unveiled by the Imeobi in accordance with the provision of the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.”

“May we state here without any predilection that such an infantile jamboree will not see the light of the day and any attempt to sell Ohanaeze Ndigbo  will be aggressively repudiated. We therefore, warn those behind the plot especially some politicians in Imo state who have been carrying themselves in a spineless manner to desist forthwith or be ready to face the full wrath of Ndigbo generally.”

“We are calling on all aspirants and other interest groups to strictly submit themselves to the guidelines and procedures of the election as Igwebuike Development Union world wide shall not allow anybody or group no matter how highly placed to be used to sabotage the interest of Igbo in the forthcoming election.”
