P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the decision of Ndigbo in Lagos State, who converged at the APC ICC in GRA, Ikeja, for the public declaration for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s reelection bid.
The event was attended by various Igbo groups led by Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, Chief Sunday Ossai while factions of Igbo Speaking community was led by Chief Sunday Eze and Sunday Udeh, while the Igbo traditional rulers were led by Eze Lawrence Nnamdi Eze and Eze Uche Dimgba including town union leaders in the state.
The declaration was made following the assurances given by the Director General of the Independent Campaign Council (ICC), Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Tayo Ayinde, when the Igbo community paid a solidarity visit to the ICC office in Ikeja.
Ayinde, who is also the Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said that the members of the Igbo community were not guilty of any crime for voting for their kinsman, Mr. Peter Obi, in the just concluded Presidential election.
He advised the Igbo to go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation as the State Government will continue to ensure the safety of lives and property of all in the state.
Mr. Ayinde noted that many Yoruba voters did not come out to vote last Saturday while adding that voter apathy was widely responsible for the party’s defeat in Lagos.
He stated that the Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration had been working towards ensuring the health and prosperity of all residents regardless of tribe or religious affiliations, thus, deserves the votes of all residents for a second term in office.
The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, acknowledged that Sanwo-Olu has been working and has demonstrated over the years that he is friend of the Igbo and the Igbo will support him.
He stated that the Igbo have prospered in Lagos because of the accommodating nature of their host communities and they will reciprocate the gesture by voting massively for the APC in various LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State.
Chief Aguene promised to reenact what the Igbo did when he raised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s hand at Alaba International Market and they massively voted for Sanwo-Olu and other APC candidates.
He explained that all the Igbo living in Lagos State have set aside their differences to speak with one voice in order to support Governor Sanwo-Olu’s reelection bid because he is a friend of the Igbo and equally to protect their businesses in the State.
He directed the Igbo to vote for APC and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in their various Wards and Local Government areas as the Igbo have extracted commitments from the Party for inclusiveness of the Igbo in Lagos State.
