It appears that there is no end to the protracted crisis in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State between the two factions led by the recognised President, Chief Solomon Aguene and the other by Chief Sunday Ossai, following recent developments over the conduct of election for new executives in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two factions have concluded plans to conduct their separate elections that will usher in two different new executives members in the State despite the position of the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Mbata over the crises.
Last year, Chief Aguene constituted an electoral committee and appointed Chief Oliver Akubueze (Mmiri) and Rev. Paul Eze as Chairman and Secretary respectively to conduct free and fair elections in State. Chief Aguene went further and nominated Chief Sunday Ossai and some members of his group as members of the electoral committee in order to bring lasting peace to Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State.
Chief Oliver Akubueze (Mmiri) had earlier stated his commitment to conduct free and fair elections that will bring lasting peace to Ohanaeze Ndigbo after the constitution of the electoral committee by Chief Aguene.
Thus, the electoral committee, in line with their determination, concluded plans to start preparations for the conduct of the election that will cut across the Local Councils in the State.
According to the Committee Chairman, Akubueze, the committee will start preparations and meetings on 6th February, 2026, then election of LGA/LCDAs will start on 7th March, 2026, while the election of State Excos will be on April 14th and 15th and finally presidential and State elections will follow subsequently.
However, Chief Sunday Ossai has made it clear that Chief Solomon Aguene has no business with the conduct of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos election because he was no longer the president.
Thus, Chief Ossai has concluded plans to set up his own electoral committee that will conduct elections to usher in new executives members as his tenure ends mid this year.
In the internal memo signed by the Chief Ossai’s spokesman, Prince Ubochi C Ubochi, the group is set to have a General Meeting on 31st January, 2026, for inauguration of the electoral committee.
Part of the memo stated:
“Despite the visible desperation of certain rogue elements who attempted to exploit our organization for selfish interests; resorting to blackmail, misuse of law enforcement agencies, and misleading court claims, every one of their efforts failed woefully. As always, darkness cannot overshadow light. With the President now taking a more proactive stance, these detractors have found themselves on the defensive.”
“Looking ahead, 2026 promises even greater excitement, especially with the upcoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State elections. A thorough and inclusive electoral committee will soon be unveiled, ensuring that all affiliated bodies are duly represented. The committee will be structured to guarantee a smooth and credible transition to the next leadership. The NEC of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide will also play a key role in this crucial election.”
By the pronouncement, it is very clear that Chief Solomon Aguene and Chief Sunday Ossai have gone back to the trenches over supremacy battle to determine who is really in charge of the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State.
