In a fervent call for peace, the Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Lagos State, Hon Segun Odunmbaku, urged citizens to refrain from protests, citing the potential for arson and destruction.

Hon. Odunmbaku emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, only a year into its tenure, is diligently addressing economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s effect on global inflation. The Council Chairman urged patience, highlighting the importance of expressing grievances through the ballot box in a democratic era.

Recalling the destructive outcomes of the 2020 EndSARS protests, which saw significant damage to BRT buses and parks, Road Safety and VIO office with other properties, the Chairman stressed learning from past events to avoid further unrest.

He outlined the achievements of the Tinubu administration, including Local Government autonomy, students loan scheme and a minimum wage increase recently passed, which are all aimed at improving socioeconomic conditions of Nigerians.

The Chairman appealed to religious leaders, traditional rulers, market leaders, and community members to maintain peace and discourage protests. He detailed his administration’s empowerment programs, such as vocational training and interest-free loans, bolstered by increased federal allocations.

CSP Elizabeth Ipadola, DPO of Ojodu Police Station, assured readiness to maintain order, emphasizing lawful assembly. Oba Hakeem Agbaosi, EweObaja 1, also called for patience and restraint to ensure peace and progress in Lagos. Community, leaders led by the CDC Chairman, Pastor Segun Fayemi, ethnic groups and PLWDS pledged support for Hon. Olusegun Odunmbaku’s administration and efforts to maintain peace in Ojodu LCDA.
