In commemoration of the Maiden National Environmental Sanitation Day, the Ojodu LCDA in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, organized a significant advocacy activity under the theme “Environmental Sanitation in the Era of Climate Change”.

The event, held at County Bus Stop, Aguda, aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, particularly in the context of the global climate crisis. With increasing concerns about climate change and its impact on urban areas, this initiative underscores the necessity of integrating environmental sanitation practices into daily life to mitigate adverse effects.

The Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon Segun Odunmbaku, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon Bunmi Oluyadi, highlighted the importance of the event.

He stated, “This maiden celebration of National Environmental Sanitation Day is a crucial step in educating our community about the interconnectedness of sanitation and climate change. A clean environment not only promotes public health but also contributes significantly to climate resilience”.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Environment and Water Resources emphasized the role of local communities in environmental conservation.

He remarked, “The state government is committed to supporting proactive Local Governments like Ojodu LCDA. By working together, we can foster a sustainable environment that will benefit current and future generations”.

The advocacy activity featured various components, including sanitation exercises, educational workshops and distribution of informative materials. Residents were actively engaged in cleaning the surroundings, while experts provided insights into best practices for waste management and the environmental impact of improper waste disposal.
