Okada’ Riders To Wear Branded Membership Jackets To Operate In Lagos

All commercial motorcycle riders in Lagos State will henceforth wear their membership jackets with effect from Tuesday next week, either Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State, MOALS, under aegis of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW or Nagari Nakowa Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association of Lagos, NNAMORAL of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.

Command Mr. Imohimi Edgal made the statement while flagging off the above named unions at the centralisation and
registration programme at Ile-Zik, Dopemu Road by Agege
Motor Road, Lagos.

The CP said that the unions had agreed to partner with the police after the last meeting held at Oshodi recently in order to make Lagos State free from all sort criminal activities. Edgal said this development will help curb criminal activities in the metropolis and boost  community policing.

According to him, it will also help to enforce law and order in the state and curb the recklessness of ‘Okada’ riders and non-members plying restricted routes, arrest the issue of not wearing helmets and those carrying more than one passenger.

The police boss advised the executives of the unions to monitor the operations of their members by registering
and providing identification jackets to them so as to
distinguish non members.

The union bodies who were at flagging off of the centralisation and registration programme showcased samples of the jackets in colours of yellow and orange to journalists.

The CP advised Lagosians to board motorcycles with the branded jackets for easy identification of the unions, units, rider’s registration number and telephone numbers.

All the phone numbers on the rear of an ‘Okada’ rider’s jacket are numbers for passengers to call in case they have problem with any of the riders. The registered riders jackets as:Yellow Jackets for NNAMORAL with the following numbers:
081229777544, 08122977754 09080991499, while Orange Jackets for MOALS with the following numbers 09031772405 07012022734,
,08055193599.

He further advised the union executives to make the jackets available for free to motivate the registration of intending members.
