The 2021 Olowo Cup taking place in Owo in Ondo State is living up to expectations, as participating students are displaying exciting soccer artistry to the delight of football fans at the Owo Stadium, Oke Ogun in the ancient city.
On Monday, a quarter final duel between Adeyeri Grammar School, Iyeri and Ipenmen Community Grammar School ended in stalemate with 1-1 draw. It was, however, Adeyeri team that carried the day in the penalty shootouts as the game ended 6-4.
Tuesday’s quarter final match between Owo High School, owo and Ipele Grammar School, Ipele-Owo will hold by 3pm.
Over 68 colleges in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State (both public and private schools) started the competition.
According to the Chairman, Media Committee of the tournament, Olatunbosun Oladimeji, Olowo Cup is being played to honour and celebrate the present Olowo of Owo Kingdom is Oba Ajibade Gbadegeshin Ogunoye III, to take the youths out of the streets and to discover talents at a tender age, help the young ones, particularly indigents, to play for the their schools and for them to hone their skills in the round leather game.
This year’s event is the first edition of the Olowo’s football competition for secondary schools in the Owo local government council area since his installation on August 7th, 2019.
