On The Threshold Of A Greater Glory!

Triumphantly, we have berthed the year, 2021. Our successful transition despite the vicissitudes of the outgone year, 2020, is not by our might but by the exceeding grace of the Almighty God.

We therefore, boldly declare praises unto his holy name for our preservation and transition to this New Year. As stated in the scripturesIt is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not (Lamentations 3:22). His unfailing love shall continue to fill our hearts with reverence and gratitude (Ezra 3:11; Psalm 7:17; Psalm 9:1and Psalm 35:18).

Let me therefore on behalf of my wife and family, convey our special New Year message of goodwill to my dear brother and friend, His Excellency, Mr.UDOM Emmanuel ,the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State and wife; constituents of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District; leaderships of the other Senatorial Districts; Federal Constituencies, Akwa Ibomites; friends and well-wishers across borders.

The benevolence of our preservation by God is not without a purpose (Psalm 118:17). While we yet live to declare the wonderful works of the Lord, we have to readily submit ourselves to be his worthwhile ambassadors vis-à-vis being reliable vessels to affect one another and humanity positively in any calling, be it spiritual or temporal, public service, politics or professional careers among others, that we are engaged with.
Year 2021 is before us to make a worthwhile triumph in all areas. With restitution in our national life, supplication to the Almighty God (2 Chronicles 7:14) and sound management of our numerous endowed resources, our society, nay our nation can surely be on the threshold of a greater glory as we enter a New Year.

Incontrovertibly, the envisaged society, state and nation that we all earnestly desire demand collaborative responsibilities between the government and the citizens.  We must engage ourselves conscientiously. As echoed by former American President, Mr.Barack Obama, “In the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can change it.”

What is more, I align myself with the thoughts of the American historian, Aberjhani, that “Democracy is not simply a license to indulge individual whims and proclivities. It is also holding oneself accountable to some reasonable degree for the conditions of peace and chaos that impact the lives of those who inhabit one’s beloved extended community.”

Within my charge as the senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, I have sustained carrying out laudable programmes that have touched lives on many fronts covering educational scholarship at all levels, empowerment of youths, market women, donation of vehicles as well as legislative engagements for the development of our nation’s key sectors of oil and gas, among others.

My resolve to serve is beyond measure as I remain indebted to my constituents, state and nation. I will on May 29, 2021 roll out my score card of service to the people and fatherland.

May God give us all a fulfilling 2021. Happy New Year!
Senator Bassey Albert AkpanChairman, Senate committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream).
