The President General of notable Niger Delta Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has commended the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, and officers of the Rivers State Police Command for what he described as a remarkable breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state.
Amb. Ibe’s commendation follows the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious criminal gang allegedly responsible for the brutal attack and murder of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in the Aluu area of Rivers State on June 29, 2026.
According to the Rivers State Police Command, the suspects were apprehended after intensive intelligence gathering and sustained tactical operations carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU). During the operation, security personnel recovered three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle, including two police service rifles that had earlier been snatched from the slain officers.
Reacting to the development, Amb. Emeni Ibe described the successful operation as a clear demonstration of the professionalism, resilience, and determination of the Rivers State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adepoju.
He said the swift response and eventual arrest of the suspects should reassure residents that law enforcement agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
“The Orashi National Congress commends the Commissioner of Police and the officers involved in this successful operation. Their dedication and courage in tracking down those responsible for the murder of police officers deserve recognition. This achievement sends a strong message that criminals cannot operate with impunity in Rivers State,” he stated.
The ONC President General also praised the operational leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for strengthening policing strategies that continue to yield positive results across the country.
Amb. Ibe urged residents of Rivers State to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that would aid ongoing efforts to combat crime, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital in achieving lasting peace and security.
He further encouraged the Police Command to sustain the momentum until every member of the criminal gang is brought to justice, noting that intelligence-driven policing remains one of the most effective tools in tackling insecurity.
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect who is currently at large, while investigations into other murder cases linked to the gang continue.
