The Orashi National Congress (ONC) has called on residents of Orashi Nation, including youths, traditional institutions, political leaders and community stakeholders, to embrace peace, unity and peaceful coexistence as essential conditions for sustainable development in the region.
The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 3rd Orashi Peace, Unity and Security Summit, held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Omoku Civic Centre, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The summit, convened by the Orashi National Congress under the of its President General, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, had as its theme, “Sustaining Peace, Unity and Security for Sustainable Development in Orashi Land.”
The gathering brought together traditional rulers, security chiefs, government representatives, international partners, youths, women, religious leaders and other community stakeholders to deliberate on security challenges and the future of the Orashi region.
In the communiqué signed by Amb. Emeni Ibe, the Congress identified disunity, political rivalry, youth unemployment, drug abuse and the proliferation of illegal arms as some of the factors undermining peace and development in the region.
The Congress, however, expressed confidence that insecurity in Orashi could be overcome through sustained collaboration between security agencies and host communities.
It consequently passed a vote of confidence in the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), while calling for increased deployment and operational support for the COAS Intervention Battalion and Forward Operating Base in Ahoada.
A major highlight of the communiqué was the Congress’s appreciation of the Nigerian Army over the new Army Bridge infrastructure in Ahoada, describing the intervention as strategic to military mobility, rapid response to security threats and socioeconomic integration across Orashi communities.
The ONC commended the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Brigadier General Ismaila Sule, Lt. Col. L. B. Yusuf and Lt. Col. B. M. Ibrahim for their contributions to strengthening security operations in the area.
It also called on the people of Orashi to take ownership of, protect and support the infrastructure, while urging the government to complement the intervention with improved road networks and other development projects.
On regional unity, the Congress declared the need to rise above political differences, internal divisions and what it described as the pull-him-down syndrome, stressing that collective interests must take precedence over personal and partisan considerations.
The summit further made a passionate appeal to youths, cult groups, agitators and other stakeholders, both within the country and in the diaspora, to support and sustain peace, warning that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of violence and insecurity.
Among the prominent personalities acknowledged at the summit were Brig. Gen. Ismaila Sule, Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, His Eminence, Barr. Nwachukwu Nnam Obuoha Obu, the Eze Ogba, and representatives of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.
Others included Lt. Col. L. B. Yusuf, Lt. Col. B. M. Ibrahim, the FRSC Omoku Unit Commander, Hon. Amb. Yahya Abubakar of the World Human Right and Peace Commission, and the Eze Ndigbo in ONELGA.
The Congress also resolved to deepen its partnership with traditional institutions, security agencies and international peace organisations to sustain peacebuilding efforts across the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful and united Orashi Nation, the ONC said it would continue to promote lawful conduct and support the activities of security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
