Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, has received royal commendation from the Eze Ali Egi of Ogba Land, His Royal Majesty Eze Engr. Uchenna Kenneth Agbeka Okwu, JP, for its sustained efforts in promoting peace, security and unity across the Orashi Region.

The commendation was given on Sunday during a courtesy visit by the President General of ONC, Ambassador Emeni Ibe, JP, and a delegation of the Congress to the monarch’s palace as part of activities marking the Egwu-Ogba, New Yam Festival, in Egi Kingdom.

During the visit, the Congress felicitated with His Majesty and the people of Egi Kingdom on the festival. As part of the engagement, ONC presented the monarch with a Certificate of Ambassador of Peace, AP, in recognition of his role in promoting peace, unity and stability within the community and the wider Orashi Region.

Speaking at the palace, Amb. Ibe reaffirmed ONC’s commitment to peace-building, security awareness, national unity and justice.

He described the Egwu-Ogba Festival as a significant cultural celebration that symbolises thanksgiving, unity, prosperity and the preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the Egi people.

The ONC President General urged residents of Egi Kingdom to celebrate peacefully and responsibly, while respecting constituted authorities and maintaining mutual respect throughout the festivities.

Amb. Ibe also highlighted key initiatives being driven by the Congress to sustain peace in Orashi. These include:
– Public enlightenment on surrender of illegally possessed arms
– National unity and security workshops
– The Orashi Peace Walk, “Waka for Peace”
– Military-civilian interface programmes
– Campaigns against pipeline vandalisation, oil bunkering and kidnapping
– Collaboration with security agencies
– Programmes promoting respect for traditional institutions

He said the initiatives reflect ONC’s broader commitment to a peaceful, secure and prosperous Orashi Region.

Responding, Eze Ali Egi thanked the Congress for the honour and described the Ambassador of Peace award as a testament to ONC’s commitment to recognising leaders who promote peace.

The monarch encouraged the Congress to remain focused and steadfast in its peace mission, urging the leadership to sustain its current approach.

He also cautioned the Congress to be careful in its dealings with politicians during the current political season, stressing the need to protect the integrity and independence of the organisation.

“The way the Congress is going about things, the Congress will go far and places,” Eze Ali Egi said, expressing confidence in ONC’s future.

The ONC leadership thanked the monarch for his encouragement and prayers, and reaffirmed its determination to continue working with traditional rulers, communities, security agencies and other stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development in Orashi.

The Congress also wished Eze Ali Egi and the entire people of Egi Kingdom a peaceful, successful and joyous Egwu-Ogba Festival, praying for greater unity, prosperity, progress and abundant blessings for the kingdom.
