As part of his administration’s Our Ease Agenda of inclusivity, The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the empowerment of two hundred widows with a sum of N50,000 grants each and skill acquisition training to mark the 2025 International Widows Day celebration.

The programme, which will take place on Wednesday 2nd July, 2025, is aimed at equipping widows with essential skills to make them self-reliant and sustainable.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs & Social Development and Commissioner Designate, Dr Seun Osamaye, after a meeting with the management team of the Women Affairs Ministry led by the Administrative Secretary, Bishop Oluseyi Odushola, said the empowerment programme will cut across various sectors and the 18 local government areas of the state.

Dr Osamaye added that the beneficiaries will include widows of former government officials, members of the House of Assembly, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Para-Millitary Officers, civil servants and other stakeholders.

The theme of this year’s celebration, “Empowering Widows: Building Resilience, Restoring Dignity,” aligns with the state’s commitment to supporting widows and promoting their economic empowerment.

The programme is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the beneficiaries, enabling them to become self-sufficient and contribute to the state’s economic growth.

Osamaye appreciated the Governor of Ondo State for his welfarist approach to governance by prioritizing the social welfare of vulnerable groups.
