The meeting was convened to sensitize states on the implementation priorities and expected deliverables for the Gender and Women Affairs sub-sector, in line with the National Development Plan (2026–2030) and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The consultation also introduced participants to the theme of the 2026 Regular National Council on Women Affairs and Social Development: *”Strengthening Families and Advancing the Care Economy for Inclusive Development: Operationalizing Nigeria’s Renewed Social Protection Architecture.”*
Discussions centered on the need for states to align their policies and programmes with national priorities that strengthen families, promote gender equality, enhance child protection, and expand social protection systems. The meeting also highlighted key policy frameworks being advanced by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, including:
* National Crèche Policy;
* National Adoption Policy;
*  National Orphanage Policy;
* Policy on the Development of the Boy Child;
* Safe Referral Guidelines; and
* Guidelines for Children’s Homes.
Participants equally received technical guidance on developing quality memoranda for the National Council and strengthening interventions in gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment, social inclusion, child rights, skills acquisition, and volunteer empowerment.
