It was the end of the road for six-man notorious “One Chance” robbery gang after they engaged Police operatives of the FCT Command with arms and  charms in a gun battle in Abuja.

P.M.EXPRESS reports one of the suspects was killed while others were arrested during the coordinated operation, which lasted for several hours and the Police did not suffer any casualties.

The success was achieved following the intelligence gathering of the gang, which had terrorised residents with violent robberies in commercial vehicles. The suspects were intercepted during a stop-and-search operation along the Kubwa Expressway on Friday night, which led to exchange of gun fire.

This was disclosed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the attack and arrest of the suspects now in custody undergoing interrogation over their alleged involvement incriminal activities in FCT.

The image maker stated that the suspects were armed and attempted to flee when officers flagged down their vehicle and there was exchange of gunfire, which led to the death of one of the suspects and the rest were arrested.

“In the ensuing chase, the criminals engaged our men in a gunfight. One of them was neutralised on the spot while others were arrested with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. Recovered from them were locally made pistols, live ammunition, charms, and phones suspected to be stolen from victims,” she said.

Adeh explained that the gang had specialised in picking unsuspecting passengers from bus stops, robbing them at gunpoint, and dumping them at deserted locations.

“We have received multiple reports from victims in recent weeks. This bust is a significant breakthrough in our fight against ‘One Chance’ criminality in the FCT,” she added.

A survivor, who narrowly escaped the gang’s attack last month, described their method as swift and brutal.

“The moment they shut the door, one pointed a gun at me while others searched my pockets. They pushed me out of the moving vehicle near Gwarinpa,” she recounted.

The Police urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unpainted commercial vehicles, and promptly report suspicious movements. The arrested suspects are currently assisting investigations and will be charged to court upon completion of the Investigations.
