CHRISTIAN ABURIME

The wind of festivity is blowing closer and closer. Ndị Anambra, the festive fire is already blazing after that epic GenZ City Block takeover, but now Ọnwa Dezemba is shifting gears into something deeper, something that hits straight at the heart. Today, December 20, 4pm at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the Christmas Carol/Cankata will come alive: it will be a beautiful evening where voices rise together, lights twinkle, and the true spirit of Christmas wraps around us like a warm Ankara blanket on a cool harmattan night.

This is unlike any carol service; it is our Anambra prelude to the big day, the moment we pause the hustle, the shopping vibes, and the daily grind to remember why December feels magical. Picture the Alex Ekwueme Square glowing under the evening sky, choirs from across the state in perfect harmony belting out timeless classics, such as “O Holy Night,” “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night”, all mixed with our classic Igbo Christmas hymns that will make your soul stir and your eyes misty.

Add the lively Cankata rhythms, the traditional dances, the storytelling vibes, and you have got an evening that reminds every one of us, from the youngest to the oldest, what Christmas is really about: family, faith, gratitude, and the unbreakable love that binds Ndị Anambra together.

Whether you are coming straight from the office, flying in from Lagos, Abuja or overseas, or bringing the whole family from the village, this is where the Christmas countdown truly begins. It is the perfect moment to link up with old friends you haven’t seen since last December, hug aunties and uncles under the festive lights, and let the music wash away the stress of the year. Kids will be wide-eyed with wonder, parents will feel that deep peace, and even the toughest guys will find themselves singing along; no shame, just pure joy.

Our loving and caring Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, is making sure everything is safe and secure, so all you need to do is show up with your festive spirit. Wear your Christmas colours, bring your voice (even if it is off-key, nobody’s judging), and let us fill Alex Ekwueme Square until it overflows with Anambra love.

Christmas Day is coming, but the real preparation starts here on the 20th. This Carol/Cankata night is our collective prayer, our shared celebration, our way of saying thank you for another blessed year. Ndị Anambra, make it a date, turn up, sing loud, feel deep, and let the season truly begin.

Indeed, it’s Onwa Dezemba. Get into the groove!
