An amputated 34-year old graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Ogun State, has opened up on how he turned out to be a one man robbery squad and robbed people in Lagos State.

The father of three kids narrated to P.M.EXPRESS that he did not set out to be a criminal but found himself in difficult situations, got frustrated and had to fight for survival before he was recently arrested.

Akeem said he performed well at MAPOLY where he studied Mass Communication and graduated with  HND. He said the joy of being a graduate did not last long when he had an accident and one of his legs was amputated which changed his aspirations in life.

He said after he was discharged from the hospital, life became unbearable for him and his family as he tried to get a job but he was unemployable because of his condition. Akeem said before then that he had already married his wife, had children and they had to relocate to his village in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State and settled there.

He further narrated that he could not farm and had no job to rely on. His family was starving and he told his wife that he had to move to look for work despite his condition in order to survive.
He said he then moved to Lagos but to no particular place or area and was moving about begging. In the night he will sleep wherever he stopped, wake up in the morning and start moving around again to survive.

Akeem said he also tried the bus stops to solicit for work as a bus conductor. He explained that some of the drivers that tried to use him were forced to drop him when they discovered that he was one legged and he could not stand to call passengers even as he was wearing his artificial leg.

He said that as the situation continued, he gradually started stealing and later went into breaking shops at night to steal items and resell. He said he finally moved back to Lagos having been caught and attacked at Abeokuta for stealing and continued in Lagos.

The one legged robber said that he does not use guns but had other small tools such as master key, pliers, and chisels, with which he used to break shops to steal items he could easily carry about.

He further said that his wife and members of his family did not know he was coming to Lagos to rob as he usually told them that he was going to Lagos to hustle and they will be surprised after seeing the publication.

The one legged Akeem said that he was unlucky the time when he went to Shasha area of Lagos, burgled shops at a plaza and was caught by night security guards who handed him over to the Police. He said that if he had options, that he will not be stealing because he was already educated before he had the accident.

An embattled Akeem was arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrate court and was remanded in prison custody after he did not meet his bail condition.
P.M.EXPRESS spoke to Akeem at the court premises where he opened up and asked for the publication so that his people will know that he had been sent to prison in Lagos in order for them to come and bail him.
