It was an amusing end to a 30-year old land battle between two brothers in Umudin community in Aguata Local government, Anambra State, after they were asked to carry their adult first sons on their back to swear to an oath before an oracle over the ownership of a parcel of land.
The gladiators, Cyriacus Obiakor and Festus Ekekwe, P.M.EXPRESS learnt refused to go to the oracle and were forced to abandon the matter because they were not sure their fore fathers actually own the land. Thus, it marked the end of the dispute that reportedly cost the parties a lot of resources over the years and the land returned to the original family who reportedly owned the land.
The contenders in the matter are from the same village and married with both female and male children. However, when the decision was taken and adopted by the community last week, Ekekwe and Obiakor declined and decided to abandon the land because they were not sure who own the land between them.
The landmark judgment which seemed to be popular in the community was delivered by its leader, Ichie Meltus Umeh and its committee set up to settle the matter which had factionalized the people between the parties.
The lingering crises between Obiakor, an Abuja-based businessman and Ekekwe, a returnee from Israel, had been of serious concern to the factionalised community because it has broken the community into factions and they decided to resolve the matter at this period.
Obiakor instituted the matter before the community and claimed that the land belong to his family which Ekekwe disputed and claimed that it was his own family that owned the land.
Our correspondent gathered that the matter had lingered for years because of the financial status of the parties involved in the matter before the Oracle option was taken.
When the parties were invited for the final decision, they were told since both insisted that they owned the land, they have to swear to an oath carrying their first sons so that if there is any consequence, it will be on their lineage.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered after the decision, they walked out and refused to swear the oath and left and the community was happy the matter was finally settled.
