Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, led by its President General, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has passed a vote of confidence on the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, for his professional and results-driven leadership in securing the state.

In a statement issued after an appraisal of the security situation in Rivers State, particularly in the Orashi region, the group said it was making bold to state its position on the performance of the Police chief.

The ONC listed five reasons for its decision:

1. Outstanding Operational Success: Under CP Adepoju, the Command has recorded major breakthroughs, including the arrest of 18 suspects and recovery of 47 firearms, 12 stolen vehicles and over 100 rounds of ammunition between June and August 2026. The group noted that the intelligence-led operation has significantly reduced violent crime, armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism.

2. Zero Tolerance for Indiscipline and Human Rights Abuse: The Congress commended the CP for his prompt dismissal and prosecution of three officers involved in the killing of Mr. Anthony Obodo, a UNIPORT graduate, saying the action demonstrates that the current Command places high premium on professionalism, accountability and respect for human life.

3. Youth Engagement and Community Policing: It lauded the CP’s launch of POCACOV, his warning against thuggery and cultism during the 2026 International Youth Day, and his continuous engagement with traditional rulers, the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, and sister agencies, which it said has restored public confidence in the Police.

4. Safeguarding Critical National Assets: The group said the commendation by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, NLNG, and other corporate bodies on the Command’s role in securing the Train 7 Project, Bonny-Bodo Road and other vital infrastructure is proof of a Police Command that is operationally disciplined and strategically focused.

5. Rivers State is Safe: It noted that the successful hosting of the 66th NBA Annual Conference in Port Harcourt and other national events is a clear testimony that Rivers State is safe under CP Adepoju.

In view of the above, the Orashi National Congress, on behalf of over two million people of Orashi, passed a vote of confidence on CP Adepoju and urged the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to continue to support him with more men and logistics.

The group also called on Orashi youths to continue to support the Police with credible intelligence and shun jungle justice, cultism and political thuggery as advised by the CP.

“Rivers State is peaceful, Orashi is peaceful, and we will continue to partner with the Police to sustain it,” the statement added.
