Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), has threatened to mobilize the people of the Orashi region for a peaceful protest if urgent steps are not taken to address the deteriorating condition of the Abua–Ahoada Road in Rivers State.

The warning was issued by the President General, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, who called on the federal and state governments as well as multinational oil companies operating in the area, to immediately declare the Abua–Ahoada Road project an emergency.

Ibe expressed concern over what he described as the continued abandonment of the critical road, stressing that the situation has caused severe hardship for residents, commuters, and businesses across the Orashi region.

According to him, the poor and narrow condition of the road has contributed to frequent accidents, insecurity, and economic losses for communities that rely heavily on the route for daily activities and transportation.

The ONC leader insisted that the road must be urgently dualised to accommodate the increasing number of heavy-duty vehicles, especially trucks transporting petroleum products and other goods through the axis.

“The Abua–Ahoada Road has become a death trap for motorists and residents. We are calling on the government and multinational companies operating within the region to take immediate action by declaring the project an emergency,” Ibe said.

He warned that if authorities fail to respond swiftly to the demand, the Orashi National Congress would have no option but to mobilize the people of the region to peacefully protect their interests and demand the dualisation of the road.

Ibe further emphasized that the Orashi region contributes significantly to Nigeria’s oil production and economic growth, and therefore deserves improved infrastructure that reflects its importance to the nation’s economy.

He called for collaboration between the federal government, the Rivers State government, and oil companies to ensure that the Abua–Ahoada Road is upgraded to a modern dual carriageway capable of guaranteeing safety and boosting economic activities in the area.
