The Orashi Youth Forum Worldwide has commenced its transition process towards a new leadership by inaugurating a five-member Electoral Committee to oversee the conduct of fresh elections.

According to Amb. Oti Eze Henry, National Public Relations Officer of the Orashi Youth Forum Worldwide, this decision was reached during a congress held in Erema Town, in Rivers State, where members gathered to deliberate on the future of the apex youth body in the Orashi region.

The congress, which is considered the last under the current National Executive Council (NEC), was presided over by the President General of the forum, Nweze Chiwokwa. It attracted key stakeholders, NEC members, and representatives from various ethnic youth groups across the region.

In line with the forum’s constitution, the President General announced the inauguration of the Electoral Committee (ELECO) tasked with conducting a credible and transparent election within 90 days. The committee is chaired by Comr. Kenoye Millious (Abua/Odual), with Comr. Isaac M. Goodluck (Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA), Comr. Justice Aguyi (Ahoada West) as Secretary, Mr. Chimeyedhu Umedor (Ahoada East), and Bro. Sokari Tennyson representing the NEC as members.

Speaking during the inauguration, Chiwokwa charged the committee to uphold the highest standards of fairness and transparency in the discharge of its duties, emphasizing the need for a credible electoral process that reflects the will of the youths.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the committee, Comr. Kenoye Millious, expressed gratitude to the congress for the confidence reposed in them, assuring members that the committee would deliver an election process anchored on integrity and accountability.

Reacting to the development, the President General of the Orashi National Congress (ONC) and first President of the Orashi Youth Forum, Emeni Ibe, commended the leadership of the forum under Comr. Nweze Chiwokwa for initiating the transition process.

Amb. Ibe, who also serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Orashi Youth Forum, described the move as timely and in line with democratic principles. He urged all Orashi youths to remain law-abiding and actively participate in the electoral process to ensure the emergence of credible leaders who will advance the collective interest of the region.

In a significant development, the congress also approved the dissolution of all four Local Government Area executive branches of the forum. The motion was moved by Comr. Uche C. Justice and seconded by Mr. Eke Promise, and subsequently adopted by the congress.

Furthermore, the forum raised concerns over the operations of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited in the Orashi region. The congress called for a review of their operational structure, alleging exclusion of Orashi youths from participation and benefits.

The youth body urged the companies to ensure inclusive engagement with the Orashi Youth Forum in their activities, warning that failure to do so could lead to resistance from youths in the area.

While reiterating their commitment to peace, the congress stressed that the patience of the youths should not be taken for granted.
