Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, was not for any political purposes but a courtesy based on their longstanding relationship, according to APC officials who witnessed the meeting.
Though Osinbajo’s stand on the single-faith ticket was said to have pitched him against some party stalwarts, informed sources say his relationship with Tinubu is still cordial.
Citing previous meetings between the two after the Presidential Primaries earlier in June, they noted that the VP’s latest visit to Tinubu is in response to an earlier visit from Tinubu to the VP after the primaries.
Recall that shortly after the APC Presidential primaries in June this year, Tinubu paid the VP a visit at his Aguda House residence at the Presidential Villa. They both met later at the Ministerial Retreat still in the Villa in October this year, indicative of the cordial relationship between them.
An APC source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said “the fact that both leaders contested against each other at the primaries does not make them enemies because I know the VP is an ‘omoluabi’ and has high regards for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who I also know to be very close to the VP, and this he has demonstrated at different times”.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the VP’s visit to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is merely in the spirit of the Christmas season. Besides, such a visit can be best termed as reciprocal after Tinubu paid the VP a similar visit in the past.”
“The meeting is a personal regard between both leaders and also shows no grudge between them. It is the supporters that are making a big deal out of nothing,” another source said.
