The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in the State of Osun, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, and her siblings on Tuesday, organised a free health mission in Odo-Otin North Area of the State in memory of their late mother, Mrs Florence Aderanti.

The exercise, which took place in Ijabe, witnessed a massive turnout of beneficiaries from the Wards in Odo-Otin Local Government Area.  The mission beneficiaries got free medical consultation, free medication for the diagnoses and food support.

Speaking during the free health mission, Egbemode said the initiative, which was organised in collaboration with her siblings, Mrs. Yemisi Adeniran, Mr. Rotimi Aderanti, Mrs. Bukola Anifowose, Mr. Muyiwa Aderanti and Mrs. Fisayo Adesoye, was part of activities to mark the first year remembrance of their mother, who passed on last year on Easter Sunday.

She added that the gesture also complements the investments already made by the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration in revitalising 332 Primary Health Centres across the State, which her constituency has also benefitted from.

Egbemode stated: “These were things that ordinarily my mother would want to do. She cared so much about the next person to the point of knowing the favourite foods of the mentally-ill and destitutes in her community”.

“Also, our mother loved the passion that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has shown towards the health sector since he assumed office. There was an intersection between what she loved and the Governor’s intervention in the health sector. She witnessed the revitalisation of some of the Primary Health Centres before she passed on and she always said that she wished Oyetola became Governor much earlier.”

“So, we have decided to honour her memory with what she was passionate about and what corresponds with the drive of the current administration”, Egbemode stated.

Speaking also during the outreach, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, commended Egbemode for the initiative, adding that such gestures  are proven enablers of the health indices of the State.

“I have said it in several fora that the Government needs similar collaborative efforts to move the state forward on all fronts especially the hugely  demanding Health sector.”

“I think it is not immodest to submit that the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has done well for health in the State of Osun. However, that doesn’t rule out the place of individuals and corporate bodies to come in and support government’s efforts.”

“These things help us improve our health indices as a State”, Isamotu stated.

One of the beneficiaries, Prince Ajiboye Hezekiah, from Ila-Odo, commended the gesture which he described as the first of its kind in the area, adding that Egbemode has typified Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s quest to have a healthy citizenry.

Another beneficiary, Ojo Ruth, described the initiative as a welcome development in the area, stating that many people who have been reluctant to accord right attention to their health status can now leverage on this and other government structures. Health is Wealth:Harbour no disease, check your health status regularly was the final message of the Iyiola Aderanti free medical mission.
