Youths of Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency in Anambra State, under the aegis of Concerned Youths of Oyi/Ayamelum are set to protest the purported attack on a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Gabriel Onyenwife.

It was gathered that on Saturday 9th February, 2019, the country home of the member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency was attacked. Hoodlums were said to have been mobilised, they broke into the house of Hon. Gabriel Onyenwife (popularly known as Africa) and set ablaze the building and over hundred (100) motorcycles, numerous kitchen wares and sewing machines. They were said to have also carted away with more than 500 HP laptops in an attempt to discredit his representation.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that there had been political tension in the Federal Constituency which had unequivocally expelled peace in the constituency. There were reports of alleged arranged plots to murder the House of Representatives member months ago as he was first attacked at the APGA Party primaries with a gun from the unknown persons believed to have been sponsored by his opponents which failed. Another alleged plot to murder him in his Awka residence was said to have also failed.

It was gathered that the items burnt and those carted away which run into millions of Naira were meant for Hon Gabriel Onyenwife’s Annual Empowerment Programme, Town hall meetings and his account of stewardship to his constituents.

Following the ugly incident, the Concerned Youths of Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency resolved to rise in their numbers and stage a ‘One Thousand Male & Female March” at the Headquarters of Oyi and Ayamelum Local Governments (Anaku & Nteje) and then march to the office of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police in Awka to register their grievances and thereafter give a 24-hours ultimatum for the perpetrators to be nabbed.

According to the group: “The recent political callousness, barbaric and evil agenda does not say well of the February 16 election in the constituency as fear has gripped many as the outcome maybe marred by same oppositions who are desperate and has instead plunged themselves into mudslinging and destructive campaign ahead of the elections. Hon. Gabriel Onyenwife of PDP is not seeking reelection; we are still perplexed why he has remained the target of this evil suitors which has now stretched to the youths and women of Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency. This act alone may trigger both youths and women of the constituency to boycott the election on February 16 if the perpetrators are not confirmed and arrested within the next 24-hours.We will be on the streets to protest and possibly boycott the February 16 election”.
