Pandemic Teaches Me To Always Plan Ahead, Make The Best Of What I Have —Big Klef

Hiphop star and originator of the Afro Trap music genre, Kenneth ‘Klef’ Ofigho popularly known as Big Klef has said that the raging pandemic taught him to always plan ahead and make the best of what he has.

Warri, Delta State-born singer, songwriter, producer and hiphop artiste stated this while speaking to our correspondent.

Big Klef noted that he has never been one to worry about what the next person in the other lane is doing and so prefers to let his work speak for itself.

“I was born ready so nothing feels like pressure to me. I just love to enjoy the process and I have always believed what’s meant to be will happen with time, so long as you put in the work and follow your dream,” he said.

Big Klef revealed that the name “BIG KLEF” was actually given to him in primary school back in Warri.

“I got the name in primary school and at first I didn’t like or answer to it. But my class mates in JSS2 continued the name and since then everybody has been calling me Klef”.

Klef has produced and co-written a lot of music for both hiphop legends and rising stars.

“I’ve worked either as an engineer on several tracks for artistes like Dru Down, Too Short, Snoop Dogg and Ajala. I have also collaborated with others like Nef The Pharaoh, Erigga & Young Fyah the list goes on,” he disclosed.

“When I started out I knew I was unique and so wanted to be seen/heard differently. So in 2011, while working on my first ever project, I came up with the sound/concept that I called Afro Trap, which is a fusion of Afrobeats and Trap,” he noted.

“The Covid pandemic put brakes on a lot of things and forced many artistes to diversify and try new things in their bid to explore new sources of income. It also forced the fans to rely solely on streaming music from artistes as live events and concerts were all cancelled due to lockdown and stringent safety protocols” he said.

“The industry is fast growing and as everything keeps evolving, I’m always learning to adapt with everything going on as well,” he further explained.

Big Klef revealed that he has a lot of new music coming later this year and he also plans on dropping AfroTrap 2 album in 2022.

“The pandemic taught me to always plan ahead and make the best of what I have. I was used to doing live events, festivals, concerts but everything got cancelled during the lockdown,” he said.
