There has been apprehension since Monday after the  Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Hakeem Odumosu, confirmed that the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and 24 Yoruba groups have threatened to attack the state, just as he assured that efforts have been put in place to prevent it from happening.

The Police boss said that the threats have been put on the radar of Lagos Command intelligence gathering unit to ensure that any possible threat by the gunmen and the groups would be prevented before it occurred across the state.

He noted that since the threats, the Command has gone into and adopted different strategies to ensure that all soft locations that could be attacked within the state are well protected while the border locations were being patrolled to prevent any movement into Lagos.

CP Odumosu confirmed the planned attack at a security stakeholders’ meeting organised by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and attended by traditional rulers and others.

He said: “The threat of IPOB to attack soft targets in Lagos is equally being put on the radar of the Command intelligence gathering and other security services in the State. Strategies are being put in place to neutralize their activities”.

“Aside from IPOB, furthermore, the Command has taken notice of agitators for Oodua Republic by some Yoruba separatist groups and the threats to disrupt law and order in State. 24 of these groups have been identified and being closely monitored”.

Some residents have been agitated over the alleged threat and the consequences if it actually happens because of the population, which may likely be disastrous in the State.

Some said that the Police may not have the capacity to cover every area in the State due to lack of Police man power.

However, the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has debunked the claim by the Lagos State Police that his group and another Yoruba group are planning to attack the state.

Responding to this assertion by CP Odumosu, Mr. Kanu said that the allegation is a lie.Writing via his twitter account, the Director of Radio Biafra said:“The public is hereby notified that the allegations that IPOB is plotting to attack Lagos is a LIE.”He said that the Lagos State CP, Hakeem Odumosu, who made the allegation, was a former CSO to Tinubu and their intention is to fuel division between Yorubas and Biafrans.

“It won’t work. This is not 1967!” he concluded.
