The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial district, Uche Ekwunife, has appealed to people in leadership positions to be accountable and offer selfless service to the people who elected them.

Ekwunife made the appeal on Friday in Abuja at the commissioning of a borehole sunk at Kokore community, Sauka, Airport road, under the Gui Ward, Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The borehole was sunk in the community by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), FCT Chapter.

Represented by Hon. Joseph Dimobi, a former majority leader, Anambra State House of Assembly, Ekwunife said that to improve the well-being of rural dwellers, the people representing them must be accountable to them.

She said that people in leadership must offer selfless service, and work towards making an impact on the community or political zone they are representing.

Ekwunife urged leaders representing the people in the rural communities to be sensitive to the needs of the people who voted them into power.

According to her, the moment we shun amassing wealth, development will come to the rural communities and the lives of the rural dwellers will be more meaningful, adding that the leaders must focus on providing the needs of the people.

Senator Ekwunife appreciated the Nigeria Medical Association Abuja chapter, under the leadership of Dr. Enema Amodu and Dr. Maureen Umemnwo-Umeakuewu, for identifying such a densely populated and disadvantaged community and deeming it necessary to provide such an invaluable dividend of democracy to them.

She urged other associations in Nigeria to emulate the NMA by extending basic necessities of life to other similar communities that are in dire need, as the government cannot do it alone.

Hon Dimobi assured the association that Senator Ekwunife remains committed to attracting developmental projects and live-changing dividends of democracy to communities under her senatorial district, as well as projecting the overall interest of Nigerians as a Federal lawmaker.

“I am quite sure that the choice of the Senator as the person to commission this project was informed by her enviable records of performance in her constituency and Nigeria at large”, he added.
