Police Arraign Man Over Alleged Cyberbullying Against MC Oluomo

A 51 year-old man, Lawal Johnson, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, over alleged cyberbullying against Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo, a chieftain of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The defendant was arraigned in a charge marked FHC/L/724c/2025, before the court presided over by Justice Deinde Dipeolu on a two count charge of the offences, by the operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday.

The prosecutor, Barrister S. A. Adebesin, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on between July and August 2025, at Oshodi/Isolo Local Govt Area of Lagos State.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant and others at large, used his social media handles via his Phone number 07069981199, and called the former Lagos NURTW chairman several unprintable names.

Th defendant was also alleged have intentionally caused Oluomo ridicule, insult, injury, enmity, hatred, ill will, emotional/psychological abuse and disparage him.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant’s actions are contrary to section 24 (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc.) Act, 2015 as amended in 2024. And 14 (1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.

The 51 years old defendant, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his not guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date.

Defendant’s lawyer informed the court that he had filed the defendant’s bail application and same has been served on the prosecutor.

The prosecutor confirmed being served with the bail application and told the court that he is not opposing the bail application.

Based on the counsels submissions, Justice Dipeolu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum, among others.

Charge against the defendant reads: “That you Lawal Johnson ‘m’ and others at large sometimes in July/August 2025 at Oshodi/Isolo Local Govt Area of Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did knowingly and intentionally send voice and video messages through your Social Media handle via your Phone number: 07069981199 and other social media outlet’s to disparage, ridicule, insult, ill will and caused criminal intimidation to the person of one Musiliu Akinsanya ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 24 (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc.) Act, 2015 as amended in 2024.

“That you Lawal Johnson ‘m’ and others at large sometimes in July/August 2025 at Oshodi/Isolo Local Govt Area of Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did knowingly and intentionally cause a message to be sent through your Social Media handle via your Phone number: 07069981199 and other social media outlet’s for the purpose of causing him disparage, ridicule, insult, injury, enmity, hatred, ill-will and emotional/psychological abuse to the person of one Musiliu Akinsanya ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 14 (1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.”
