In a joint operation by Police operatives, 86 suspected cult members terrorising the residents of Ikorodu and its environs were arrested while arms and ammunition were recovered in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed that the suspects were in Police custody.
He said that on 25th January, 2020, at about 0600hour, acting on credible intelligence, the Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants established by the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, arrested 21 suspected cult members at Adamo community, Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
Elkana explained that the suspects, who belonged to two rival cult groups, Aiye and Eiye confraternity, mobilised from Emure and Adamo communities to unleash terror on residents of Adamo community and environs.
However, the arrest was carried out in a joint operations with operatives from Imota Police Station, Rapid Response Squad, Special Anti Robbery Squad and Area N Command.
DSP Bala Elkana disclosed that the arrest followed up to another operation carried out at Ijede where 65 cult suspects were arrested.
Eleven assorted pistols of different calibre with large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the suspects. He said that the suspects confessed to be responsible for series of violent attacks, murder and armed robbery incidents recorded in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
He said that the suspects will be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigation as efforts were being made to arrest other members of the group now at large.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Odumosu, further reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to address the menace of cultism and youth gangsterism in Lagos State and reiterated his earlier warning to criminals to relocate to other places because there is no hiding place for criminal elements in the State.
